Ocnus or Oknos was the son of the talented nymph, Manto, granted
the gift of prophecy.
Ocnus was condemned to spend eternity in the netherworld, weaving
a rope of straw. As depicted in the picture by Polygnotos, standing behind
him is his donkey which eats the rope as fast as it is made. Ocnus
personifies hesitation, frustration, delay and the wasting of time and
effort. Ocnus is the patron saint of researchers, graduate students and
investigators. It was chosen for this site as it seemed most apposite for
the site's depiction of the netherworld of politics and the ephemeral
nature of the information it contains.
