Ankara's Fears of the Military Option against Iran
Turkey, NATO's only Muslim member, seeking to become a member of the European Union, has increasingly been playing the role of facilitator in helping to resolve international disputes between Western and Middle Eastern countries. Such a role, while contributing to the creation of an increased Turkish part in Middle East affairs -- in particular with its Muslim identity coupled with aspirations of a democratic style of governance similar to Europe -- is also important for Ankara in terms of pre-empting any possible repercussions for Turkey emanating from such disputes.
