According to a source at the Chadian Foreign Ministry, “part” of Chadian traders was released Thursday after the audience of Chadian Foreign Minister Mahamat Zen Cherif with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema on Wednesday night in Malabo.

Wednesday, Malabo announced to have foiled a “coup”.

According to a statement, a group of foreign mercenaries mostly Chadian, but also Sudanese and Central African wanted on December 24 to attack the head of state who was in the presidential palace of Koete Mongomo for the holiday season.

The ruling power claimed that the “coup” was orchestrated by “militants of some radical opposition parties with the support of some foreign powers”.
