Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube says the government will revive garrison shops to cater for the members of the uniformed forces.

The shops will sell commodities at cheaper prices.

Giving a post-cabinet briefing on Wednesday Profesor Ncube said, "Garrison shops already exist in the barracks and we need to give a subsidy to those in the armed forces. Garrison shops are the global norm and as Zimbabwe, we have been late in formalising them. It took us long to do this."

The move comes after  Professor Jonathan gave speculation that the junior army officers who were feeling the brunt of the economic challenges affecting the country might dump the government and join the looming mass protests.

Said Moyo, "Now the tables are starting to turn; it's the people who are palpably ready to come out in the streets to demand change. The burning question of the moment is whether the military tanks will return the favour and embrace the people, this time round. This is going to be the final test for the tanks: will they embrace the people the day the people come out in the streets, as they might do soon and very soon? The clock is steadily ticking and tocking."
