House of Reps Group Wants Petroleum Minister; GMD Of NNPC, And Heads Of PPPRA, DPR and PPMC Sacked
Sahara. February 10, 2012

A group of members of the House of Representatives is calling for the Minister of Petroleum Resources Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke and other top public officials of the Ministry to be removed.

The group argues that their remaining in office at a time that the EFCC is investigating subsidy payments tantamounts to being judges in their own cause.  They have therefore moved that the officials, who include the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, as well as the Heads of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, the Pipelines Products Marketing Company Limited, and the Department of Petroleum Resource to step aside to allow for a proper and unbiased investigation of the petroleum ministry.

The motion is causing a sharp division in the house, but most members are supporting the moves, and signatures of such supporters are being collected in that regard.

Although most of those who have signed the motion come from the opposition parties, a few members of the ruling PDP have also offered their support.
