The Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) on Friday witnessed the highest single day turnover over the past 11 months.

Thapelo Tsheole, chief executive officer of the BSE, said the bourse recorded a 149.8-million-pula (13.8 million U.S. dollars) trading turnover on Friday, a first for the bourse this year.

“This trade is another milestone achievement as it signifies the BSE’s prowess to manage increased trading activity that are aligned with the Exchange’s strategy to increase the average daily turnover levels to 18.0 million pula (1.66 million dollars) per day by 2021,” said Tsheole.

Statistics indicate that the highest turnover in a single day in the BSE was recorded at 494.3 million pula (45.54 million dollars) in June 2016.

The landmark trading volume comes ahead of the 23rd Annual African Securities Exchanges Association Conference 2019 to be hosted by the BSE in Kasane, northern Botswana from Nov. 24-26.
