Iraq - five trade unions and the engineering union announced today its alliance in order to face the challenges they face.

These unions are: the General Federation of Trade Unions of Iraq, Iraqi Federation of Workers Trade Unions, Federation of Workers Councils and Unions in Iraq, Federation of Oil Unions , the Federation of Independent Trade Unions, and engineering union.

A statement issued by the alliance said: "It is a positive step to embody the common motto (the workforce class strength and unity and organization) long lives the working class. Long live the unity of workers, Glory and eternity for the martyrs.

The formation of this alliance came after preparations and discussions lasted for more than a year in which six unions decided to organize the “Iraqi federations and trade unions Conference" and announced the unification of the efforts of the unions.

Leaders of the Unions stressed that they intend to proceed with the consolidation of the democratic foundations of the union work and to preserve its unity and independence and professionalism through the implementation of the objectives and policies of the conference, they also announced the adoption of the “trade union rights and freedoms” draft law prepared by the labour unions, which seek to be sent to the legislative bodies at full speed possible.

They also stressed that the conference would be the broader umbrella of the trade unions in Iraq, which believes in independent democratic trade unions aimed at genuinely representing workers' and improve them to achieve their hopes and aspirations, declaring that the doors of the conference is open to all Iraqi trade unions without any exception for those who believe in the policies of the Conference and commit to the decisions of the conference held by the Iraqi federations and trade unions for the period last May.
