Anti-Terror Raids Are Not the Best Time to Host Orgies at Police Stations

When Brussels locked down last month so that authorities could launch a manhunt for suspects in the Paris attacks — and terrorists believed to be plotting attacks in Belgium itself — there were countless ways police and soldiers could have passed the time when they were not out on patrol.

But now law enforcement officials in Belgium are investigating whether what two policewomen and eight soldiers chose to do was hold an orgy in a police station in the Ganshoren neighborhood in Brussels.

The investigation was prompted at least in part by reports in Belgian news outlets La Dernière Heure and De Standaard that sources told reporters group sex had taken place during the lockdown.

According to police spokesman Johan Berckmans, 15 to 20 soldiers slept at the Ganshoren police station for two weeks in November to avoid commuting back and forth during the lockdown. The top floor of the station was reportedly converted into a temporary dormitory while raids were carried out in the nearby neighborhood of Molenbeek, where security forces were hunting for suspects in the Paris attacks and questioning their relatives. Raids were also carried out to prevent new attacks from being carried out in Belgium, and the country was on its highest terror alert.

Berckmans told the newspaper that there was certainly a party held at the station when the soldiers left, but whether, or when, officers engaged in group sex was still not clear.

“When they left, they organised a small party to thank the police in the area,” he told the newspaper. “We have launched an investigation to find out what exactly happened.”

If the reports turn out to be true, this would be one of two incidents in the past month that have embarrassed Belgian security forces. With Brussels still on high alert for a terrorist attack, a uniformed soldier believed to be on patrol was photographed carrying a shopping bag on Dec. 22.

At least, though, he was with just one soldier.
