Rampant rise of covid-19 cases in second wave. Public urged to take it more seriously.
Coronavirus originated in 2019 and kept spreading below the radar for weeks and months in Wuhan China. US infectious disease experts, including Anthony Fauci, believe the virus jumped from animals to humans yet Trump’s CDC chief Robert Redfield refers it to be a laboratory escape case.

Coronavirus is attacking all secular and religious countries worldwide. Covid-19 pandemic has affected developed countries more than developing countries. World community with all the sophisticated state-of-the art technologies failed to cope with invisible virus.

Imagine the plight of people who suffered from Black Death (plague) hundred years ago when nobody knew of viruses and their variants. As part of system, it is hard to reverse natural catastrophes, as nature concludes to overwhelm societies. Nature does not warn, it just happens. 127 million covid-19 cases, 102 million recoveries, 22 million active cases and 2.8 million deaths on 27 March 2021.

Climate change has ramping up temperatures, ocean acidities and air pollutions worldwide. Humans were exposed to three viral diseases - SARS, MERS and Covid-19 - in last two decades. Daily new Covid-19 cases reached 304,874 on 8 January 2021 in USA, 97,654 on 11 September 2020 in India and 97,586 on 25 March in Brazil. New cases are rising again in second wave due to various variants.

USA, Brazil, India, Russia, UK, France, Italy and Spain are the most Covid-19 affected countries. United States has more cases than top ten most affected countries. USA, India, China, Russia and UK have conducted maximum tests to detect covid-19 patients. China is on 91st position in list of top 100 most Covid-19 hit countries. China has controlled the virus well in time.

Coronavirus is mutating and spreading worldwide. UK variant SARS-CoV-2 (B.1.1.7), South African variant 501.V2 (B.1.351), Brazilian variant (P.1), California variants CAL.20C (B.1.427 and B.1.429) and Indian double mutant (E484Q and L452R) are more infectious than original virus [Korin 2021, BBC 2021].

The California variant has three mutations in the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2, so it is more infectious than the initial, dominant novel coronavirus strain. “changes in the spike protein are likely to change the ability of the virus to bind to human cells”, increasing virus efficiency.

Variants of concern, two California variants, have evidence of an increased risk of transmission, more hospitalizations or deaths, a “significant reduction” in the ability of antibodies developed against the virus to fight the virus, and reduced effectiveness of treatments. These variants cause a “moderate reduction” in vaccine performance. However, Dr. Adalja anticipates that the California variant will not be a problem, as long as people receive both doses [Korin 2021].

California variant made up 35% of all COVID-19 cases in the state, and 44% of all coronavirus cases in Southern California. Patients infected with the California variant were nearly five times more likely to be admitted to the ICU and 11 times more likely to die compared to patients who carried other viral strains. This clade was the one that took hold in New York in early 2020, when the pandemic first started to ramp up in the United States [Meredith 2021].

Global data on covid-19 cases shows 97.32% recoveries and 2.67% deaths whereas positive test rate varies from 10% to 18% in various cities of Pakistan. India has reported a double mutant virus which might have reached Pakistan from across border movements.

Air, water and food systems mediate covod-19 transmissions. Schools, mosques, churches, temples, shrines, shopping malls, gas stations, bars, gatherings, hugging, restaurants, parks, buses, trains and airlines play key role in local and global spread of Covid-19 Pandemic.

Lockdown and adherence to SOPs worked in first wave but people are seen not caring much in second wave. Air, water and objects mediate covid-19 transmission. Social setups, embracing cultures and physical interactions expedite infectious diseases. Social freedom and kiss cultures played key role in exploding covid-19 cases in western countries.

Covid-19 injection prices are too high in Pakistan. A covid-19 patient has to pay Rs100,000 daily in private hospitals. Poverty, health and ignorance based business are flourishing in Pakistan. Traders, doctors and education institutions loot public in name of inflation, covid-19 and education.
